2008 Monferrato Rosso, Sassaia

The winemaker here has craftily combined the traditional northern Italian grape varieties of Barbera and Nebbiolo with Cabernet Sauvignon to produce this intriguing and intense wine. The deep colour and exotic aroma are immediately enticing, with notes of cherry, blackcurrant, cocoa and even a hint of liquorice emanating from the glass. The palate doesn't dissapoint either, with layers of fruit and spice coating the mouth and leaving a very long and satisfying taste. Open an hour before serving and enjoy with grilled meats or dishes rich in tomato.
