2012 St Croix du Mont, Crabitan Belle Vue

You need only paddle across the River Garonne from the most famous of all sweet wine appellations, Sauternes, to find the appellation of Sainte Croix du Mont. It shares a similar climate, it's made from the same grape varieties and the principle of allowing the grapes to begin to rot in the autumn mists before picking is the same. The result, therefore, is a wine not dissimilar to those of Sauternes, with a lovely honeyed citrus character, but a little lighter in style. It's still luscious and delicious, and at half the price of Sauternes it shouldn't be overlooked.
