Aug 2015- Reviewer : Luis Gutierrez - The 2013 Ayni is mostly Malbec with a dash of Cabernet Franc for Altamira, one of the most respected places in San Carlos, in the Uco Valley. The vineyard is a massale selection planted eight years ago on stony and sandy soils with an important component of chalk which has been farmed organically since 2013. Here they select deeper soils as they want to have concentration and power combined with the Altamira freshness. The wine aged in a mixture of used 225-liter French oak barrels and 5,000-liter oak foudres. In 2013, the wine seem much fresher than in previous vintages (the vintage conditions helped), the nose shows a mixture of red berries, flowers and spices with something meaty and savory. The palate is medium to full-bodied with the sensual texture of the Malbec and the mineral chalkiness of Altamira, making it very attractive and supple. This is fermented with indigenous yeasts and bottled unfiltered. 22,000 bottles produced.
