2012 St Joseph Lieu Dit, Guigal

Guigal’s Saint-Joseph Lieu Dit comes from the vineyard that gives the appellation its name, and is one of the finest sites in the Northern Rhone Valley. Guigal owns the majority of this parcel, with 14 acres in total, 60% of which is planted to red grapes and 40% to white grapes. The vines are from 20 to 75 years of age, planted on steep slopes of gneiss with streaks of granite, and produce yields of only around 1.8 tons per acre.

"...the 2012 Saint-Joseph Lieu-Dit Saint Joseph (100% Syrah aged in 100% new French oak) exhibits thrilling black raspberry, cassis, earth, chocolate and striking minerality to go with a rich, layered and textured mouthfeel. A big, rich effort that has superb mid-palate depth and solid underlying structure, it should benefit from short-term cellaring and have 10-12 years or so of longevity." 91-94pts Wine Advocate
